Flytipping fines issued following Dukinfield Our Streets day of action

FINES for waste offences will be issued after a successful day of action in Dukinfield to tackle flytipping and litter.

Waste enforcement officers were joined by councillors on the clean-up on 8 November 2023, which was part of Tameside Council’s ongoing Our Streets campaign to work with the community to make local towns cleaner and safer.

The team found and removed waste from Lime Street, Church Street, Highfield Street, Combermere Street and King Street. Officers are investigating the fly tipping in these locations and fixed penalty notices will be served.

A fixed penalty notice will also be served on a shop that was found to be breaching its waste duty of care requirements as it had no bins in place and waste was accumulating outside.

In total eight Fixed Penalty Notices will be served following the day of action.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member responsible for enforcement Cllr Vincent Ricci – who took part in the day along with Executive Member for Environmental Services Cllr Denise Ward and Dukinfield ward members Cllr John Taylor, Cllr Jackie Lane and Cllr Naila Shariff – said: “This is a great result from yet another successful Our Streets Day of action. I know that flytipping and littering is of great concern to the local community and it is great to see how we can work together to tackle it and fine those responsible.

“There is no excuse for flytipping and littering – both are totally unacceptable and disrespectful to the local community and environment. We will always take enforcement action when we find out who the offenders are.”
