Oldham has officially opened the next chapter in its proud market history with a vibrant new space in The Spindles
The brand‑new Oldham Market burst into life this weekend with a vibrant celebration of local traders, food, creativity and community spirit.
Residents, families and visitors packed into the new space, eager to explore a market buzzing with independent stalls, creators and food businesses offering flavours from across the town and beyond.
Oldham’s market heritage lives on in the new modern space located in The Spindles, as part of a once-in-a-generation £450million town centre investment.

Linking directly to Parliament Square, the market is next to Oldham’s new event space The Loom, putting the town firmly on the map as a destination for events, culture and community.
Oldham Council Leader Cllr Arooj Shah said: “The opening of our new market is a proud moment for Oldham. “It celebrates our heritage while setting the stage for a brighter, bolder future.
“This is also a celebration of the traders and small businesses who are the heartbeat of this town, and this new modern market gives them the space, support and visibility they deserve.
“This is Oldham investing in its future — and investing in the people who make our town so special.”
There was excitement from the moment the doors opened at 9am, with the first 100 visitors snapping up free goodie bags to mark the occasion.
Throughout the day, crowds enjoyed entertainment, live activities and tasters, along with the chance to meet the traders who are helping shape this exciting new chapter for Oldham.
The opening also marked the wider reopening of Parliament Square, which has been refreshed and revitalised to host future town centre events and bring even more activity into the heart of Oldham.
The new market is a key part of Oldham’s ambitious £450million regeneration programme, reshaping the town with new homes, new jobs, greener public spaces.
Bringing the market into The Spindles shopping centre creates a direct link to Parliament Square, and places it right at the centre of Oldham’s future as a place to shop local and support independent businesses.
The market can be accessed through the doors opposite Molino Lounge on Yorkshire Street, and it’s ready to welcome you.
