Council’s regeneration chief tours housing project on King Street West
Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Colin Macalister, recently paid a visit to Great Places’ affordable development at King Street West. Accompanied by Paul Richards, Chief Executive of Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) and Matthew Harrison, Chief Executive of Great Places, along with other members of the project team, they toured the £16.4 million site.
Situated in the heart of the Stockport Mayoral Corporation Town Centre West regeneration area, the new development aims to create a new gateway in the town centre, offering 73 one and two-bed apartments through the Rent to Buy tenure. This initiative allows residents to save a deposit by reducing the rent to 80 per cent of the market rate for at least five years, enabling them to eventually purchase their homes.
Matthew Harrison, Chief Executive of Great Places, expressed his delight at showcasing the site to Cllr Macalister, highlighting the project’s contribution to the development of a vibrant community in Stockport. The development at King Street West will complement another affordable housing project at Chestergate, set to provide 144 additional homes, subject to planning approval.
Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, emphasised the importance of the King Street West site in delivering new affordable homes and job opportunities in Stockport. He noted the recent recognition of Stockport as the best place to live in the North West by the Sunday Times, affirming the borough’s appeal to residents and investors.
