Government Released Guidance For “Local Lockdown”

The government released new guidance that advising people not to travel in or out of areas affected by the Indian variant of coronavirus. The guidance listed all regions that the coronavirus infection rates related to the the variant are increasing.

According to the guidance, people should avoid travel in Bolton, Bedford, Blackburn and Darwen, Burnley, Kirklees, Leicester, Hounslow, and North Tyneside.

The government released the guidance earlier this month. But apart from the official website, there aren’t any announcements, press releases, notifications to any of their local systems on it. For that reason, many people say that they aren’t aware of the new rules and criticised the government for the lack of communication.

A spokesperson from the government said: “Working with local authorities, we took swift and decisive action to slow the spread of the B1.617.2 variant by introducing surge testing and bringing forward second doses of the vaccine for the most vulnerable.”

“We provided additional guidance for those living in affected areas when we became aware of the risk posed by the variant, to encourage people to take an extra cautious approach when meeting others or travelling.”

After the infection rates in Bolton have increased by 60 % that is the highest in the country, the government has released several announcements for precaution. Due to the Indian variant of coronavirus, it is expected that new restrictions will be announced for the next days.
