Rochdale Gears Up for Upcoming Elections – Ensure You’re Prepared to Cast Your Vote

There is also expected to be a general election later in the year, with the Prime Minister yet to announce the date. Additionally, there will be a by-election in the Rochdale constituency on Thursday, 29 February 2024 following the unfortunate passing of Sir Tony Lloyd.

As the council prepares for these events, eligible residents are being reminded that they will need to show photographic ID in order to vote at a polling station, as was introduced last year. There are several options for voting – you can vote in person at a polling station, vote by post, or appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf, known as a proxy vote.

Clare Poole, the elections manager at Rochdale Borough Council, stated:

“These are opportunities to make your voice heard and have a say in choosing someone who will represent you on matters that directly impact your daily life.”

Recently, annual notification letters have been sent to all households, providing details of who is registered to vote at each address. Any changes can be made by following the instructions on the letter.

Claire added:

“Check the information on your letter to ensure that your registration is correct, especially if you have recently moved, particularly to a newly constructed property, or if you are nearing your 18th birthday. Studies indicate that individuals who have recently moved are less likely to be registered compared to those who have lived at the same address for an extended period.”

If you need to register, the process is quick and simple. You will only need to provide your date of birth and National Insurance number.

If you have a postal vote, you can use it without the need for photo ID.
