Public feedback sought on proposals for rejuvenating Trafford Wharfside

Local businesses and residents in Trafford are being invited to share their opinions on ambitious plans to rejuvenate a key area next to the Manchester ship canal.

Trafford Council has launched a public consultation on the Draft Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Draft Trafford Wharfside Masterplan, following Executive approval on February 26.

The Framework, developed in collaboration with Peel Group, Manchester United, and Salford City Council, outlines the vision for the Wharfside area and how it can be enhanced as a vibrant community space. The Masterplan delves into the potential for residential and commercial development in various plots, with a focus on improving the area’s design, green spaces, connectivity, and active travel options.

This strategic plan, which identifies potential development sites, will guide future well-designed projects in the area. The Masterplan prioritizes nature and landscape, celebrates the Manchester Ship Canal waterfront and the Imperial War Museum, proposes up to 5,000 new high-quality homes, connects Trafford Wharfside to the city centre, and creates a top-notch setting for Manchester United’s plans for a world-class football stadium.

The consultation, closing on April 18, offers businesses and residents a chance to voice their opinions on the regeneration of Trafford Wharfside. Those interested can participate in the consultation on the Draft Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Masterplan, with a drop-in session scheduled for March 20 at Hotel Football in Old Trafford.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, commented: “We have collaborated with key partners and landowners Peel, Manchester United, and Salford City Council to present these exciting plans for the future of this significant area, and it is crucial that the community has a say.

“I urge as many businesses and residents as possible to engage in the consultation, as Wharfside holds great importance due to its location, business presence, and potential for regeneration. These plans will enable the Council to guide and support the revitalisation of this area for the benefit of the local community and provide a world-class setting for Manchester United’s stadium, enhancing the overall visitor experience and making the most of the historical waterfront at Wharfside.”
