Rochdale’s town centre secures spot in the finals of Britain in Bloom competition

The nomination of Rochdale puts the town in competition with London’s Canary Wharf, Dorset’s Shaftesbury, and Farnham in Surrey for the title of best town centre in the UK. The theme for this year’s judging will focus on cooperation and friendship, reflecting the town’s culture and heritage. Councillor Liam O’Rourke expressed pride in Rochdale’s recognition and highlighted the hard work of council teams, community groups, businesses, and volunteers. The town is gearing up to showcase its beauty and charm to the judges, with the reopening of the historic Rochdale Town Hall adding to the excitement. Councillor Phil Massey, leading the entry for Rochdale, emphasised the town’s blend of heritage, architecture, modern amenities, and horticulture that make it a place residents are proud to call home. The borough of Rochdale as a whole is also making strides in urban areas, with Spotland and Falinge nominated in their category. Neighbouring towns like Heywood, Middleton, and Pennines are also preparing for judging, aiming to surpass the impressive 25 gold awards achieved in 2023. Judging dates are set for July and August 2024, promising an exciting summer for Rochdale and its communities.
