We May Not Have Our Parade, But We Still Have Our Pride

Manchester Pride events that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own living room

What is Manchester Pride?

What first comes to mind when you think about Manchester pride? It may be a parade? Or a festival? Or a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community? And yes, Manchester Pride does involve all these things. But it is also so much more.

Manchester Pride is a charity that campaigns to improve LGBTQ+ equality in our society and gives grants to LGBTQ+ groups, organisations, and events.

Manchester Pride organises a Candlelit Vigil every year, during pride celebrations. This is to remember and reflect on all the lives lost to HIV, and those in the community who are still suffering and being persecuted today.

What is happening this year?

For those aged 14 to 18, Manchester Pride has been and will continue to provide Youth Pride workshops. These began in April and will continue until October. Occurring twice a month, these workshops allow young LGBTQ+ people to socialise with each other, try new things and help to make content for the virtual pride events.

Obviously, this year our pride celebrations will lack large gatherings such as the parade and festival. Luckily, Manchester Pride celebrations will still take place between the 29th and 31st of August. And you can all join in from your own homes!

On the 29th of August, United We Stream will be broadcasting live performances, DJ sets, special guest performances, and repeats of the best performances from past pride events!

Youtube will enter the pride events on the 30th, to share with you all the content surrounding art and culture. This will include content created within the previously mentioned Youth Pride workshops.

Finally, on the 31st, Manchester Pride will stream their annual candlelit vigil. BBC Radio Manchester and Gaydio will broadcast this event.
