Council teams up with Simple Life Homes to construct residences, enhance biodiversity, and rejuvenate a therapeutic garden.

Trafford Council is continuing its commitment to provide more homes in the borough.

The Council has partnered with Sigma’s Simple Life Homes to construct 98 build-to-rent properties as part of the development at Millbank Lock, Partington.

Simple Life is the leading provider of BTR (build to rent) single family housing in the UK and prides itself on integrating with the local community.

The project, set to be finished by 2026, supports two of the Council’s main priorities – lifting people out of poverty and addressing the climate crisis.

In an effort to engage with the community, a biodiversity wellbeing garden and outdoor green space will be improved at the nearby Our Lady and Lourdes Catholic Primary school. The project is in memory of Mrs Moran, a teaching assistant who passed away in October 2023. Children from years 3 to 6 have been involved in planning the garden, with planting scheduled for spring. The project is being facilitated by Sigma Capital Group and funded by The PRS REIT plc.

Trafford Council is dedicated to working with key stakeholders to ensure new developments, like Millbank Lock, have a positive social and environmental impact on the borough.

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Advice, said: “Trafford Council is fully committed to providing more homes across the borough and this project is just one of many underway. We are thrilled to partner with Sigma and Simple Life Homes to create a biodiversity wellbeing green space. This aligns with our priorities of reducing health inequalities and addressing the climate crisis, and will benefit staff and pupils for years to come.

“We believe that cross-sector community partnership engagement is crucial in achieving the borough’s goals for local people and places. We hope this biodiversity project will be the first of many, showcasing the power of collaboration. By working together, we can achieve great things.”

Niamh Waldron, ESG Director for Sigma Capital and Simple Life Homes, said: “We are delighted to work with Trafford Council on the construction of these new homes and are excited to begin our biodiversity project with the staff and students at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary. Their enthusiasm and care for the project is inspiring. Community engagement is important to us as a business, as we strive to make a positive impact.

“I hope this project will be the first of many with schools and communities across the country, illustrating the power of people working together. Together, we can achieve so much.”
