Bury youngsters given express route to careers in construction sector.

Bury’s talented youngsters are paving the way for a career in the construction industry.

Seven young individuals, who have experience in care or being looked after, were given the opportunity to attend a career development seminar by the council’s Joint Venture Partner, Muse Places.

Senior professionals from Muse, Asteer Planning, and John Matthews Architects provided insights into the various career opportunities in the sector.

The built environment plays a crucial role in our daily lives, from the homes we live in to the infrastructure that provides us with essential services like water and electricity.

The partners discussed the requirements of a career in the industry, pathways to qualifications, overcoming challenges, and where to seek support. Council officers also highlighted similar opportunities in local government and the benefits of a career in public service.

The young attendees had the chance to explore plans for the new heart of Prestwich through the Bury/Muse Prestwich Village Regeneration project and other developments visible from Muse’s Salford offices.

Councillor Lucy Smith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, commented: “Our young people left feeling inspired by the day and gained valuable insights into the various paths they can take to achieve their goals. We are grateful to everyone involved in organising this event.

“We are committed to arranging more of these events for our care-experienced youngsters. Hearing success stories from a range of businesses in Bury truly helps to elevate aspirations.”

Councillor Alan Quinn, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate Change, and Operations, added: “Our youngsters provided insightful feedback on the plans for Prestwich and posed challenging questions to industry professionals.

“I hope the day provided them with a clearer understanding of what a career in civil engineering and the built environment entails and motivates them to consider it as a viable option. I extend my thanks to Muse for their support of our care-experienced youngsters and their dedication to community involvement through the regeneration work in Prestwich.

“The council is already planning the next event to maintain this positive momentum and inspire our youngsters to pursue rewarding careers in the construction and property sectors.”
