National fostering film project ‘Any of Us’ honored with prestigious accolades

“Any of Us” is the fifth – and most well-supported – film in all to be produced in collaboration with Stockport Council and a growing partnership of 87 councils across the UK to promote local authority fostering.

The fostering film “Any of Us” was honored with the “Best Collaboration” and “Best Creative Comms” awards at the comms2point0 UnAwards, which celebrates excellence in public sector communications, held in Birmingham.

The film’s message is that “Any of us can foster a child or young person, if you have the capacity to care”. It tells the stories of three individuals who exhibit the qualities required to be a foster carer in various situations – Ayesha assisting a pedestrian after a minor road accident, Neil defusing a tense situation in a snooker club, and Marsha recognizing a distressed young person and intervening at school.

Although these individuals are in different scenarios, they all demonstrate the nurturing instinct that is essential to being a foster carer. The film gradually reveals that one of these three ordinary people will become the foster carer for Chloe. But which one will make the difference? Their stories are intertwined with Chloe’s journey into fostering.

Caroline Simpson, Stockport’s Chief Executive, Councillor Wendy Meikle, and Chris McLoughlin, Director of Children’s Services, together with senior managers from Stockport Family, received the winner’s award certificate from Matthew Fitzpatrick of CAN Digital, who submitted the entry on behalf of Stockport and the other participating councils.

Councillor Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education at Stockport Council, said: “Stockport is thrilled to be part of this nationally acclaimed film project. The film emphasizes the message that anyone who cares has the potential to become a foster carer. We are proud of Stockport’s collaboration with other councils to create a film that conveys a universal message: We need more people to step forward and become foster carers, and here in Stockport, we need local foster carers to give our local children a chance to thrive and reach their full potential.”

The council regularly organizes information sessions for those interested in learning more about fostering with the council. The next session will take place on Wednesday, 14th February, starting at 6pm at Stockport Town Hall.
