Clean Air Zone for Greater Manchester

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is planning to sign off a plan to improve air quality in the city this summer. Even a lack of funding creates arguments on the clean air zone plan, the council is determined to finalize the plan by this summer ahead of a proposed 2021 rollout.

After eight weeks of consultation, Clean Air Plan has been completed and introduced. The plan includes daily charging for vehicles such as buses, HGVs, taxis, and coaches in Greater Manchester’s ten boroughs-that excludes motorways and trunk roads.

In the report, a GMCA meeting on 29 January was outlined and the authority aimed to hear back from the government on potential funding. At the same meeting, GMCA will also discuss the key-trans-Pennine A628/A57 route through Tameside.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is planning to prepare a plan by 2022 even the lack of certainty around emission levels and potential funding aren’t clear.
