Queen’s Baton Relay 2022: Stockport route revealed!

Excitement is building as Stockport prepares to host the Birmingham 2022 The Queen’s Baton Relay on Sunday 17 July.

People wanting to cheer the Batonbearers as The Queen’s Baton Relay makes its way across the town now have the first glimpse of the route it will take.

As part of the lead up to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games next month, the Queen’s Baton Relay is a mammoth event spanning countries across the commonwealth, and culminating in a domestic route through the UK.

Now, the detailed route for Stockport’s part of the Queen’s Baton Relay has been revealed. The route will begin at St Peter’s Square outside St Peter’s Church, and continues around the Market Place before heading up the High Street. It then turns right down Wellington Street before looping around to culminate at Stockport Town Hall.

Rolling road closures will be in place during the Relay, which is due to arrive in Stockport on Sunday 17th July and is expected at 10 am.

Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “We’re thrilled that the historic Queen’s Baton Relay is paying Stockport a visit on its final journey through England to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. We’ve designed the route to include as much of the town centre as possible, with plenty of space for people to come along and cheer on the baton bearers as they make their way along the route.”

“It should be a fantastic day and a chance for the people of Stockport to be a part of this historic event to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the opening of the Commonwealth Games on 28th July.”

Residents are invited to join in by lining the A6 and visiting St Peter’s Square where we hope to have some activities planned.
