Councillors from Oldham Council joined young people, families and community members to celebrate 17 years of Outta Skool at its annual awards ceremony.

The event also marked Outta Skool’s ninth awards ceremony and brought together young people from a wide range of clubs including Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Football, Kabaddi and Dance. Awards were given to celebrate hard work, progress and commitment across the year.

As well as recognising sporting achievements, the ceremony also celebrated personal development, leadership and dedication. Adults who have taken part in Outta Skool’s community projects were also recognised, including people from the 12 week Let’s Get Active programme, which helps improve physical and mental wellbeing and reduces isolation.

Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah, attended alongside Cllr Mohammed Nazrul Islam and Cllr Shaid Mushtaq. The councillors presented a number of awards on the night and spoke with young people and families at the event.

Cllr Arooj Shah said “It was a real pleasure to join Outta Skool for such a special celebration. For 17 years they have been changing lives by giving young people and adults the support, confidence and opportunities they need to thrive. The pride in the room was clear to see and I want to congratulate everyone who received an award and everyone who helps make Outta Skool such an important part of our community.”

Murad Chowdhury, Director of Outta Skool said “This event shows what Outta Skool is all about. Our young people and adults continue to inspire us with their determination and commitment. We are very grateful to the councillors for attending and for recognising the work that goes on across our programmes all year round.”
