Oldham Council and partners have created a new linear park on Foxdenton Lane, which is now open for residents to enjoy.
The park, which is 19 acres, is part of the Broadway Green development and borders new housing estates and commercial sites in the area.
Work on the park started in February 2024; the first phase of construction included creating footpaths, viewpoints, new trees, shrubs, and wildflower meadows. The new play area, designed to blend into the natural surroundings of the park, was completed more recently.

Cllr Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Our green spaces are a major source of pride for all our residents, and this new park is the latest addition to the list. It will be a beautiful place where families can relax, children can play, and local people can enjoy the outdoors right on their doorstep for generations to come.
“I’d like to thank the teams who have worked so hard on making the park and the wider Broadway Green development a reality. The initiative is building a better future for our residents, with new homes, jobs, and community spaces that are enriching lives. We’re going to build on this progress as we continue our work regenerating the town, so everyone knows Oldham is a great place to live.”
Oldham Council is developing outdoor community spaces throughout the borough, with the 160-acre Northern Roots project transforming neglected land into the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park. Work has also started on Tommyfield Park, which will be a wildlife-friendly green space in the heart of Oldham town centre.

The new linear park is the latest milestone in the redevelopment of the Broadway Green area, where 500 new homes, including around 180 affordable homes, are being built. The area also contains 600,000 square feet of employment space and is providing 2,000 new jobs for Oldhamers, including in the Aldi on the Lydia Becker Way which opened in 2024. The Broadway Green development forms part of Oldham Council’s pledge to build 500 social homes in Oldham by 2029.
Situated in a prime location near the M62 and M60 motorways and only two miles from Oldham town centre, Broadway Green is being developed in partnership with Oldham Council, Seddon and Grasscroft Property.
