Several local residents were recognised this morning at the Mayoral Civic Appreciation Awards, held at the Oldham Civic Centre. The awards were presented by the Mayor of Oldham, Dr Zahid Chauhan OBE,
These awards are given to people from across the borough who go above and beyond to help others—whether that is through volunteering, running local groups, supporting neighbours, or simply being someone the community can count on. The people who received awards this year are a shining example of what community spirit in Oldham really means.
From organising food support and community activities, to helping the elderly, young people and those facing hard times, each person honoured has shown great care and commitment to others. Their efforts have brought people together, lifted others up, and helped make Oldham a better and more welcoming place.
After the event, the Mayor shared a message on social media:
“Honoured to present Appreciation Awards this morning to some of our borough’s most dedicated and inspiring residents. Their selfless contributions and community spirit make our borough a better place for everyone. These awards are a small token of our gratitude for the big difference they make every day. Thank you for your service – you are what makes our community strong.”
