A new state-of-the-art library in the heart of Hale village is now fully complete and will open to the community on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
The 3,000 sq ft Hale Library and Community Centre – the result of a partnership between Hale Community Trust, Trafford Council and developers Westshield Ltd – is opening on the site of the former Hale Bowling Club pavilion.
The library, which will offer books, computer use and Wi-fi along with a host of activities, will be located on the first floor of the new building. The ground floor will be operated by Hale Community Trust and will include a bowling club room, new public toilets, a restaurant/café and two large community rooms. The ground floor fit out will continue while the library is open.
The library was supposed to open earlier this year but was delayed while Trafford Council waited for the building to be fully completed. To compensate for the delay, a weekly pop-up library was opened at St Peter’s Church, Harrop Road.
Cllr Cath Hynes, Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said: “Libraries are extremely important to local communities and we are delighted to be opening this fabulous new facility in Hale. We appreciate all the frustration caused by the delay but it is great news that the library will now be fully open.
“We are pleased to have worked closely with the Community Trust to bring forward this fantastic development and look forward to greeting people in the new library.”
