Man arrested after attempted robbery in north Manchester

A man is in custody and a firearm has been recovered after an attempted robbery in north Manchester.
Officers were called to reports of a robbery at a shop on Oldham Road, Newton Heath, at about 4:05pm on 23 March 2022.
Police attended an arrested a 37-year-old male inside the shop – he is in custody being questioned on suspicion of robbery.
Detective Inspector Timothy Berry, of GMP City of Manchester CID, said: “The suspect has followed a cash-in-transit driver into the shop and pulled out a weapon in an attempt to steal money.
“But thanks to the quick thinking of the shop owner, he has become trapped inside the shop and armed police have arrested him.”
