Major Delays on M60 Anticlockwise Following Crash at Simister Island

Motorists are experiencing significant delays this evening after a collision near Simister Island. There are currently queues as a result of an incident on the M60 anticlockwise near junction 18.

At present, one lane is closed. Traffic is building up in both directions approaching the scene, from junction 17 at Prestwich on the clockwise carriageway, and from the M62 westbound near Rochdale.

There are also queues forming on the M60 anticlockwise approaching Simister Island, from Blackley at junction 20. According to the Inrix traffic monitoring system, they report: Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on M60 anticlockwise at J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island).

Further updates regarding the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. Emergency services have been contacted for additional information.

The North West Motorway Police states that the crash occurred between junctions 18 and 17 on the anticlockwise M60.

The vehicles involved have now been moved to the hard shoulder, and recovery work is currently in progress.

Delays continue in the area.
