Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was arrested following a late-night incident on the Greek island of Mykonos.
Maguire was seen Friday being escorted into a police station in the Aegean island of Syros by officers.
Local police in the area said that three British nationals are being charged with verbal and physical abuse, as well as attempted bribery. This all started when police were called to an incident in Mykonos reportedly involving two feuding groups. Police say the three men abused and punched a policeman who were trying to break up a quarrel, resisted arrest, and attacked officers outside the station.
In a police statement it’s claimed that one of those arrested offered money to avoid going into custody.
The Reds released a brief statement on the incident saying Maguire is “fully co-operating” with Greek authorities. Meanwhile according to Greek state ERT TV the Man U captain and a friend were also arrested.
The players have been on holidays since they a 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals ended their season.
The 27-year-old Maguire became the world most expensive defender when he was signed from Leicester City last year in a deal worth £80 million. Midway through his first season with the team he became captain.
Maguire is expected to appear before a prosecutor in a Greek court on Saturday. (JSL)
