Sea Fever Band to Perform at Historic Church in Stockport

This Friday (26 January), two members of the iconic band New Order will be showcasing their latest project, Sea Fever, at St Mary’s Church in Stockport. This unique event is part of Stockport’s tenure as Greater Manchester Town of Culture, which aims to bring live music acts to unexpected venues.

Sea Fever is a five-piece collective featuring Tom Chapman and Phil Cunningham from New Order, along with talented musicians Iwan Gronow, Beth Cassidy, and Elliot Barlow. Their mesmerizing blend of bass, guitars, synths, and pulsing beats promises an unforgettable live performance. The band will also be supported by the talented Kate Gambhir.

The gig, sponsored by the Town of Culture initiative, will transform the historic Market Place church into a one-of-a-kind music venue. Doors will open at 7.30pm, and tickets can be purchased through the official website.

This event is just one of many exciting gigs organized by Stockport Council’s Town of Culture program. The initiative aims to bring diverse and eclectic music to Stockport, showcasing both established and emerging artists. Previous sell-out events include an exclusive Q&A session with Graham Gouldman of 10cc and intimate performances by GoGo Penguin and Jeremiah.

Councillor Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Sport at Stockport Council, expressed their enthusiasm for the Town of Culture program, stating, “Stockport has a rich musical history, and it’s great that as Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture, we can celebrate both the present and the past by supporting new music and nurturing the next generation of local talent.”

In addition to live performances, the Town of Culture program has also organized music education workshops for primary school students and professional development sessions for teachers. Further music workshops will be announced in the coming months, providing opportunities for people to learn new musical skills.

The final weekend of the Town of Culture program, from 22-24 March, will be filled with music events throughout Stockport. Details of upcoming gigs and concerts can be found on the Town of Culture website.
