Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne has been named the UEFA Midfielder of the season.
In 2019-20 the Belgian number 17 was the top assist provider in Europe and took that form into the Champions League.
De Bruyne scored 16 times and had 23 assists in all competitions last season.
He made history just a few weeks ago, becoming the first City player to win the PFA Player of the Year Award.
City’s creative genius beat out former Champions League winners Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara in winning this latest award.
After winning the award De Bruyne discussed the challenges he faces in midfield.
“I want to compete as an individual to be the best that I can be,” he said. “To get this award is really nice.”
“As a midfield player, you have to think constantly about the game – try to be ahead of the game as I see it,” says De Bruyne.
De Bruyne was also nominated for UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.
That award went to Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. (JSL)
