Improvement works at borough's sixth Family Hub

Major improvement works are set to get underway at the Family Hub at Leigh, the borough’s sixth Family Hub.

Family Hubs are designed as one stop shops for the whole family, providing everything from pregnancy and early years support to help with housing, finances, mental health, and wider wellbeing with activities and events for all ages.

Councillor Dane Anderton, cabinet portfolio holder for children and families said: “Our Hubs are key places for our communities. They host events for everyone from parents, babies, teenagers, people interested in crafting, looking for support with their wellbeing, or just wanting to make some new friends.

“We have five main Hub sites across Wigan, Hindley and Atherton, with this sixth Hub set to open in Leigh in the summer once the works are complete, all supported by a network of linked community sites.

“There have been more than 100,000 visits to our Family Hubs and there really is something for everyone.

“I am delighted to have visited to see the ‘before’, with upgrades set to make it a fantastic space for local families.”

These renovation works have been guided by local community, and will deliver upgrades to make the building more accessible and more energy efficient, while creating more space for activities, events and services within the community.

Coun Anderton, added: “Services are continuing to run from nearby sites include Westleigh Family Centre on Westleigh Lane, and the A Team Hub at Trafford House.

“Once the works are complete at this Hub on Walmsley Road, we will be inviting the community in for a look around and to cut the ribbon, so keep an eye out for updates.”
