Wigan Borough’s pair of chart-topping bands and a prolific charity campaigner will receive Believe Stars.
The Lathums, Lottery Winners and Mike Sharkey of Team Wigan and Leigh will receive their honours later this year.
Launched in 2012, the Believe Star scheme recognises residents who have made outstanding contributions.
Previous recipients include sports stars, entertainers and medical experts.
Leader of Wigan Council, Councillor David Molyneux MBE, said: “We are incredibly proud of our three recipients for 2026.
“They are all outstanding ambassadors for our borough and have made such a positive difference to people’s lives.
“Believe Stars are the highest honour we can bestow in Wigan Borough and this recognition is well deserved.”
Lottery Winners and The Lathums have been at the forefront of the borough’s musical scene, going on to attract regional, national and international recognition and critical acclaim.
Both have released number one albums and featured at 2024’s hugely successful Robin Park music festival. They are keen supporters of the borough’s arts and culture initiatives.
The Lathums released their third studio album Matter Does Not Define in 2025. Lottery Winners are preparing for homecoming headline gigs at the Progress with Unity Stadium at Leigh Sports Village in May.
Coun Molyneux added: “The two bands showcase the amazing musical talent that comes from our borough.
“They are proud of their hometowns and the authenticity and passion they display in their music is an inspiration.”
Mike Sharkey is the managing director of borough-based firm Greenmount Projects. He is also a founder and lead figure for the Team Wigan and Leigh charity fund-raising initiative.
A collaboration of businesses and community organisations, Team Wigan and Leigh organise fund-raising feats, such as huge charity walks and challenges.
Coun Molyneux added: “What Mike Sharkey has achieved as a leading figure within Team Wigan and Leigh over recent years is astounding.
“Their co-ordinated fund-raising has meant hundreds of thousands of much needed cash has been generated for worthy causes such as Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Daffodils Dreams and The Brick.
“It is very much a team effort, but Mike’s enthusiasm and drive is an example to us all.”
Past recipients of Believe Stars include actor Sir Ian McKellen, Lioness Ella Toone, Olympic gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson, heart specialist Dr Nayyar Naqvi and charities Joining Jack and Joseph’s Goal.
The stars are on display at Believe Square in Wigan town centre and at Civic Square in Leigh.
Unveiling ceremonies for the trio of 2026 recipients will take place later in the year.
