Hundreds of people gathered at Platt Fields Park with speakers and flags despite lockdown restrictions. One neighbor described the gathering as “the busiest I’ve seen it.”People were drinking and playing music during the gathering.
More than 500 hundred people gathered at Platt Fields Park on Wednesday evening. Due to lockdown restrictions, police attended the scene immediately.No fixed penalty notices have been issued at this stage.
One of the residents in the region talked for the gathering and said “I think there must be 500 people there all breaking Covid rules. They’ve got loudspeakers, Irish flags and they’ve been urinating up my back fence. Our yard backs onto the park. I think it’s just disgusting. It’s exactly the same as it was a few weeks ago but worse.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Police have been called to reports of several groups of people gathering at Platt Fields Park and are currently in attendance to engage with those present.”
A statement posted by GMP Fallowfield on Twitter said: “Following the recent improvement in the weather, we have unfortunately received reports of large groups of people gathering in Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield. Despite the recent announcement of the roadmap to the easing of lockdown, we are still under restrictions to stay at home unless exercising with one other person.”
“This is to ensure that the reducing infection rate does not once again rise, and mean that the lockdown period has to be extended further than the dates provided by the government.”
