Train services across Greater Manchester have been delayed as most lines were submerged between Wigan and Southport.

Cris Jackson, the operator’s regional director said: “Unfortunately, because of the rising floodwater, we are unable to run our usual services on several routes which are having a significant impact on our customers.”
Network Rail said specialist teams were working to help bring water levels down “as quickly as possible,” added.
He also asked passengers to be patient.
