The Perfect Month
The accolades keep pouring in for Pep Guardiola.
The Manchester City boss has been voted the Premier League Manager of the Month for January.
Guardiola couldn’t have asked for much more from his team in a record-setting month.
City began the year in eighth place but was able to gain ground quickly. They won six Premier League matches in January scoring 16 goals and conceding only one to move into first place.
In all competitions, Guardiola’s men won all nine of their games, the most ever for an English side in any of the top four tiers.
In total, the Sky Blues scored 24 times and conceded only two. They advanced to a fourth consecutive Carabao Cup final with a 2-0 win over Manchester United and also earned a pair of wins in the FA Cup.
Guardiola says the team’s achievement last month is even more incredible given what they’ve been up against with COVID restrictions.
“What this team achieved in January – winning all our games, despite all the restrictions we face – is remarkable,” he said.
“This just shows how focused my players and staff are.
“They are incredible, and I am so proud to work alongside them.
“Every single person involved deserves huge credit.”
City’s won a top-flight record 15 consecutive games and are unbeaten in their last 22 in all competitions.
Incredibly they’re still in contention to win the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League.
This week Guardiola earned his 200th win as the club manager in City’s 3-1 win over Swansea. (JSL).
