Greater Manchester Police most improved Force in the country

Cllr Mark Hunter and Cllr Helen Foster- Grime respond to the news that they have now been removed from special measures.

Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council said: “I welcome the news that GMP has now been taken out of special measures; the force has acted and taken the appropriate action to ensure they can continue to serve our communities with an invigorated approach going forward. While there are still lessons to be learned, this demonstrates real progress and I know it will give some confidence to the people of Stockport.”

Cllr Helen Foster-Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing said: “We expect high standards from our police force and the new senior policing leadership in Stockport is also driving positive change. Through our joint work in the Safer Stockport Partnership they too recognise they should be held accountable when these standards are called into question. This is a very welcome step in the right direction and the building blocks are now in place to create a police force we can be proud of.”
