Bakers Dozen

Manchester United hope to continue their dominance of Leicester City this weekend when both sides face off with second place up for grabs.

The Reds haven’t lost to the Foxes in 13 straight matches across all competitions and are just a point behind them in the Premier League table.

Lineup Notes

After an impressive two-goal performance last weekend against Leeds Scott McTominay’s fitness is a question mark for Saturday’s game.

The team will monitor his fitness and that of Luke Shaw who came on as a substitute in their Carabao Cup victory against Everton.

Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the match with Everton and might not be ready for this weekend.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are still on the long-term absentee list.

Some good news for Brendan Rodgers as Jamie Vardy is fit and ready to go for this weekend’s big matchup.

The top goalscorer in the Premier League last season was taken off in last Sunday’s win over Tottenham.

Caglar Soyuncu is the only other question mark for the Foxes with a groin problem.

Current Form

The Reds are coming off a big 2-0 win in midweek in the Carabao Cup as they advanced to the final four of the competition.

They’re unbeaten in their last seven Premier League matches.

Leicester City’s won three of its last four EPL matches including a big 2-0 win at  Tottenham.

That win moved them into second place.

Home Away from Home

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has won 10 straight road matches in the Premier League.

If they can win on Boxing Day they’ll join Manchester City and Chelsea as the only teams to win 11 in a row away from home in the top-flight.

The last six road victories for United have come after conceding the opening goal.

That’s more than double what any other Premier League side has ever done.

Brendan Rodgers’ side has not been good at King Power Stadium this season.

Four of their five defeats have come on their home field.

Smashing Success

Winning for Manchester United on Boxing Day has become as sure as death and taxes.

The Reds have won 21 Premier League matches on Boxing Day more than any other side.

Not only has United been impressive on Boxing Day but they’ve been especially good against Leicester through the years.

United has won 19 Premier League matches against Leicester which is more than they have versus any other side.

Heavy Hitters

Since this match takes place on Boxing Day it’s appropriate we have some dangerous offensive threats who can deal a heavy blow.

For the Foxes that player is Jamie Vardy.

One of the Premier League’s most potent scoring threats, the 33-year-old’s picked up right where he left off a season ago with 11 goals already in 13 games.

The man known as Cannon is an explosive striker who can score goals in bunches but can also be a great provider with four assists to lead his team this season.

Since Brendan Rodgers became Leicester boss Vardy’s scored 43 goals for his team in the Premier League, that’s more than any player in that time span.

If there’s an Achilles heel in the strikers game it could be his form on Boxing Day.

In six matches for Leicester, he has yet to find the back of the net on that day.

Not to be outdone Man United’s Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation since arriving from Porto early in 2020.

Like Vardy, the Portuguese midfielder leads his team in goals and assists with nine and five respectively.

His presence on the field seems to raise the level of play of his teammates.

Fernandes has been involved in half his team’s goals in the Premier League since his debut in February with 17 goals and 12 assists.

Landing some killer blows

Through the year’s Man United’s been able to land some big blows to Leicester City.

The Reds have scored against the Foxes in each of their last 22 EPL encounters.

The only other team United’s had such a long goal scoring streak against was Aston Villa who they also scored against 22 straight times between 1997 and 2008.

Leicester City’s also conceded more goals against the Reds (60) than any other EPL side they’ve faced.

Match Info

Saturday’s match is a matinee affair at King Power Stadium at 12:30 pm. (JSL).
