Foster carers needed in Stockport to help provide a safe space for refugee children

Working alongside Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Stockport Council is encouraging foster carers and supported lodgings hosts, new and existing, to come forward and help refugee children arriving across the region after fleeing from war, persecution and violence.

Some of the children arriving here have been trafficked or exploited, and most arrive without parents or family to look after them. They desperately need a safe, caring place to call home where they can settle for a few weeks, months or sometimes years as they take steps towards their future.

Supported lodgings is offering a home to a teenager who has been in care or who arrives in this country with no family or safe place to stay. As these children are older, they need help with learning life skills such as cooking, home maintenance and basic financial advice – guiding and preparing them on their journey to independence.
