Following The Death Of His Mother, Man From Levenshulme Has Been Jailed

After pleading guilty for manslaughter with diminished responsibility, a man from Levenshulme was sentenced at Crown Square Court to six years and eight months in jail.

A relative of Hyacinth Morris’s went round to her house after he was unable to contact her on Thursday 7 May 2020. After he entered the house, the body of Hyacinth was found dead and he contacted the police.

Enquires established that the death of the woman wasn’t of natural causes. Extensive CCTV images and forensic enquires showed that the person responsible for the death of the woman was

Leroy Panton (5/6/79) of Westminster Street, Levenshulme who is the son of the woman.

Panton was arrested initially on suspicion of murder and he later was detained under the Mental Health Act.

Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Cottam, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts remain very much with Hyacinth’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We have specialist officers supporting them as they come to terms with her tragic death. Although we can never bring Hyacinth back, she will live on in the memories of her loved ones.”
