A man who attacked a mechanic on Freetown Industrial Estate in Bury was sentenced to nine years in prison. He pleaded guilty to a section 18 assault and possession of a knife.
Alfred Carter from Bury came to the garage on Tuesday 4 August 2020 and threatened a 51-year-old mechanic and his friend with a knife. A scuffle followed between two men and the 51-year-old man received a deep slash wound across his stomach.
The mechanic was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Carter left the scene, called the police, and said he had been involved in an incident that he had been attacked by some males. Officers attended Carter’s home and arrested him for the attack.
Detective Constable Dave Potter of GMP’s Bury District said: “This was a horrific, unprovoked attack on a man just doing his job, and has had a big impact on the victim and his family.”
“We’re pleased Carter’s been brought to justice and will spend time in jail for his actions”
