Firearms Discharge And Traffic Collision on St.Peter’s Square

On Saturday night, police officers received a report of a suspected firearm discharge and road traffic collision on St. Peter’s square. A large cordon in place while detectives continue the investigation.

Last night just before 8.30 pm, suspected firearms and a traffic collision were reported on St. Peter’s Square. When the officers came to the scene, they found an abandoned vehicle on the tram track. Noone was reported as being injured.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of a fireman. They are all in custody. Enquires are ongoing.

Superintendent Helen Critchley, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We understand that this incident has no doubt caused concerns in the city centre and those living by but I’d like to reassure them that a thorough investigation is underway. Officers are at the scene and a large cordon is in place whilst a number of enquiries are carried out to establish what happened during this incident.”
