Shortly after midnight on Thursday 2 April 2026, officers from the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Firearms Unit, assisted by the Tactical Aid Unit (TAU), executed a warrant at an Alexandra Road address in Whalley Range.
During the search, officers recovered what is believed to be a loaded viable firearm, alongside several snap bags of cannabis.
A 45-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and remains in police custody for questioning. This operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into firearms offences in the area.
Detective Sergeant Paul Shacklady, from the City of Manchester South Challenger team, said:
Today we carried out a warrant as part of an investigation into firearms offences.
As a result, our officers have recovered a firearm and prevented a dangerous weapon from reaching the streets, and causing potential harm to our communities.
We are committed to removing weapons from our streets and protecting lives and we will stop at nothing to target offenders.
Those who choose to carry weapons and put people at risk will face robust action and will have to answer to the law.I urge anyone concerned about crime in their area to get in touch with police. You can contact us on 101 or via the LiveChat function at gmp.police.uk.
