The town’s first park in over 100 years was named Project of the Year at the annual Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) North West Awards held in Birmingham last month.
The award was presented to Bolton Council and contractors Bethell.
The site of the former Odean Cinema has been completely transformed with a central lawn, broad flower beds, a rain garden, generous seating and a public performance space.
Named in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Elizabeth Park, which opened in March this year, has become a key asset in Bolton Council’s regeneration of the town centre.
During the construction, local school children were invited to plant bulbs and learn about the biodiversity that the park will create for wildlife and visitors to enjoy.
Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Deputy Leader, said:
“Elizabeth Park is a vibrant green space and a wonderful community asset for residents and visitors alike and it is great to see this recognised on a regional level.
“Well done to all those involved who brought this vision to life.”
