Putting an End to Smoking in Bolton

It’s the 40th anniversary of National No Smoking Day, a day that urges smokers to take a 24-hour break from cigarettes and highlights the many benefits of quitting smoking, even for a short period.

Giving up smoking, even for just one day, can greatly improve your health, including:

– Increased lung function
– Enhanced circulation
– Strengthened immune system
– Improved sense of taste and smell

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in England, including in Bolton, where up to two in three smokers will die due to long-term smoking.

The advantages of quitting smoking are evident, with almost immediate health improvements and an average savings of £2,000 a year that smokers typically spend on tobacco products.

Lynn Donkin, Director of Public Health at Bolton Council, stated:

“If you smoke, quitting is one of the best ways to enhance your health and the benefits are immediate regardless of your age or how long you’ve smoked.

People are three times more likely to quit with professional help, and here in Bolton, there is a range of free support available to help residents quit.

This No Smoking Day, we urge residents to take a step towards a healthier life and give up smoking.”
