Rochdale Town Hall’s grand reopening is imminent, with the stage set for a spectacular event.

The splendid Grade I-listed building has recently undergone a significant restoration, with the help of The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Now, residents and visitors will have the chance to witness the results for themselves when the building opens its doors on Sunday, 3 March 2024.

Over the past 4 years, teams of experts and over 500 volunteers have been working hard to transform the building and bring back its former glory. Previously hidden spaces are now open to the public for the first time.

Historic features such as the intricate ceiling panels, angels in the Great Hall, the Magna Carta mural, stained glass, painted surfaces, and stonework have all been meticulously restored and cleaned.

Visitors will also discover new spaces, like the Bright Hall, created in rooms once used by council staff and councillors. This area now features artwork created in collaboration with the local community and is open for events and community use.

The grand reopening will take place on Sunday, 3 March 2024, with doors opening at 10am to the sounds of the Rochdale Music Service Fanfare. Street theatre and outdoor arts specialists, Fool’s Paradise, will entertain visitors with their puppet show ‘Rambling On’, while the Bombay Raja brass band will bring Bollywood music to the event.

Councillor Neil Emmott, leader of the council, expressed his excitement for residents to see the town hall fully restored, while Councillor Janet Emsley mentioned the plans for guided tours and a variety of activities and events in the future.

Free tickets for the opening day can be pre-booked from Tuesday, 20 February 2024, with walk-ins also welcome. The town hall will be open 7 days a week from 10am to 4pm, except on Bank Holidays. Visitors are encouraged to contact the town hall team in advance to ensure access to specific rooms.
