Construction commences on the initial of Oldham’s 2,000 fresh town centre residences

Work has commenced on the construction of the first of 2,000 new homes in Oldham’s town centre this week. The project, a collaboration between Oldham Council and Muse, aims to rejuvenate the area with modern housing, a new neighbourhood, and a park. The Civic Centre, the largest site set for redevelopment, will undergo a transformation while preserving the iconic Civic Centre tower. Council Leader Cllr Arooj Shah expressed excitement about the project, which also includes the revitalization of Spindles, the creation of markets and events spaces, and the restoration of the Old Library. Phil Mayall, Managing Director at Muse, highlighted the opportunity to bring positive change to Oldham’s town centre. The development is made possible by relocating council staff to new offices, freeing up space for the new homes. Site investigations are currently underway, and the partnership with Muse could last up to 25 years, focusing on redeveloping brownfield sites in the town centre. The project aims to enhance public spaces and attract further investment, creating a better future for Oldham.
