Crucial funding for playgrounds persists throughout the borough
In the past year, Bury Council has spent £300,000 on revamping six local play areas, with plans to invest another £280,000 in seven more starting in April.
The council recognises the importance of high-quality, safe, and accessible play facilities for children in the community.
Recently improved play areas include Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom (£90k), Philips Park in Whitefield (£50k), Bolton Road Park in Radcliffe (£40k), Ramsbottom Pool (£40k), and Thatch Leach Lane in Whitefield (£50k). Additionally, a £30k trim trail has been installed at Burrs Country Park.
Upcoming projects in the next year include improvements at Hamilton Road Park in Whitefield (£40k), Victoria Park in Besses (£40k), Bright Street in Radcliffe (£30k), Old Kays Park in Tottington (£40k), Top Park on Bolton Road West in Ramsbottom (£50k), Elms Playing Fields in Whitefield (£40k), and Ostrich Lane in Prestwich (£40k).
Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change, and operations, emphasised the importance of investing in play areas to support children’s fitness, development, and wellbeing.
Bury Council takes pride in maintaining 14 Green Flag accredited parks, with most sites holding the award for several years. The Green Flag Award® scheme recognises well-managed parks and green spaces, setting a standard for outdoor recreational spaces in the UK and globally.
