Scheme to ensure town’s long-term success, sustainability and vibrancy as a thriving community hub

A fresh strategy for Urmston town centre that will safeguard the town’s success, sustainability, and vibrancy for the next 15 years is in the works. Trafford Council has launched a consultation on the plan, aiming to strengthen Urmston as a distinctive destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The initial public consultation event is scheduled for Thursday 21 March from 3pm to 7pm at Urmston Library. This drop-in event is your opportunity to share your likes, dislikes, and suggestions for improving Urmston with the Council.

The Council and their chosen consultants will be present at the event to gather input from the local community to shape the new Urmston Plan. AEW Architects have been appointed by Trafford Council to lead the plan’s development, supported by Avison Young, Vectos, and CW Studios in crafting the vision and masterplan for the area.

Local residents and businesses are encouraged to get involved in the planning process to ensure that Urmston’s future vision aligns with community needs. Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, stressed the importance of community engagement in creating a positive vision that benefits everyone.

Following the event, an online consultation will take place in early May 2024 to gather further input on the Urmston Plan. The plan is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a key component of the government’s Levelling Up agenda aimed at investing in communities, businesses, and skills to enhance local pride and opportunities nationwide.
