Approved: Redevelopment of Fallowfield Campus Given the Green Light

The University of Manchester has received approval from the Manchester City Council Planning and Highways Committee to redevelop the Fallowfield Campus and provide more modern, high-quality student accommodation. The plans include the redevelopment of Owens Park, Oak House, and Woolton Hall to meet the growing demand for student bedrooms in a safe and sociable environment. The campus, located near the university’s main buildings, offers a range of support services for students. The redevelopment will replace existing older accommodation and deliver updated bedspaces to accommodate up to 5,400 students. The university conducted a month-long public consultation to gather feedback on the proposals, which will be incorporated into the ongoing plans. The phased redevelopment will involve the demolition of Owens Park Tower, and the university will work with a delivery partner to bring the plans to fruition in the new year. Dr. Simon Merrywest, Director for the Student Experience at the University of Manchester, expressed delight at the approval, emphasizing the commitment to providing modern accommodation for students and ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment. The university will continue to collaborate with the local community to maximize the benefits of the redevelopment project.
