Staying Put?

Man United looking to extend the contract of Edinson Cavani

 Extending his stay?

It looks like Edinson Cavani’s time at Old Trafford will continue a little while longer.

The Uruguayan signed for a year last fall with an option.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the club is looking to exercise that option.

“I can only say Edinson has done well for us, I’ve been impressed with him, and he’s gelled really well with the group,” said Solskjaer.

“We’ll sit down with him and speak with him in the near future, of course, to see his plans and our plans. You always speak to your players, and with his contract situation, we’re very pleased with what he’s done.”

Gas in the tank

El Matador, who turned 34 last week, is ageing like a fine wine becoming a pivotal element to Man United’s success.

In 24 appearances this season, Cavani has seven goals, two of which were match winners.

PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer still has a lot left in the tank providing a much-needed spark for the Reds.

His veteran presence in front of the goal has been a big help to the Reds young strikers.

Cavani has missed the last two games of Man United with a muscle injury. (JSL)
