Prepare to be ‘enchanted’ by this delightful news – an astounding sum of over £229,000 is being dedicated to the enhancement of tennis courts throughout the borough.

Tennis courts in six of our parks are set to undergo a makeover as part of a significant investment initiative.

Oldham Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have formed a partnership that is bound to be a hit with players of all ages and abilities.

The sites that will receive refurbishment are Alexandra Park (£105,365); Chadderton Hall Park (£49, 210); Higher Crompton Park (£43,465); Dunwood Park (£19,290); Werneth Park (£6,200); and Lower Memorial Park (£5,790).

The improvements will range from resurfacing work to the installation of new fencing, gating, and line marking.

Potential future developments include an online booking system to allow for advance court reservations.

Work on the sites is planned to commence in the coming weeks, in time for the busy summer season. To expedite the refurbishments, the courts will be temporarily closed to the public at certain times.

Alexandra Park, which is one of the most frequented parks in Oldham, will be the first to be upgraded.

Councillor Peter Dean, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, commented: “This funding is a tremendous boost for our town and our communities.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our officers for securing the funding, as it will revitalize the facilities, some of which are starting to show their age.

“Our courts are already well-utilized, but with better and improved facilities, we hope to attract even more people to visit our parks, enjoy playing tennis, and lead more active lives.”
