Ex-United midfielder admits to assault charge

Ronnie Wallwork could see some jail time

A former Manchester United midfielder could be spending some more time behind bars.

Ronnie Wallwork, now 43, recently pled guilty in court to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm against Alan Mulholland.

The incident on December 22 2019 reportedly took place in a pub though we don’t know much more than that.

43-year-old co-defendant David Gardner pled guilty to the same charge as Wallwork.

The lawyer for both defendants, Alex Langhorn, suggests a comment by the complainant could have caused the scuffle.

Sentencing for both men will take place on March 23.

Wallwork spent his youth career at Old Trafford and made 19 appearances for the senior side from 1995-2002. The Englishman won the Premier League at United in 2000-01.

He spent time at various clubs after leaving Man United, including Stockport County, West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday. At West Brom, he won the Player of the Year Award in 2004-05.

It’s not the first time Wallwork’s been in trouble with the law.

He spent 15 months in jail in December 2011 after being caught selling parts from stolen high-performance cars.

In 2006 the former midfielder got attacked at a bar while out with his girlfriend, Amy Broadbent.

Broadbent’s ex-boyfriend Robert Rimmer stabbed Wallwork with a fish knife seven times in the hand, back and stomach.

Wallwork now calls Failsworth home. (JSL).
