Maintain Pristine Conditions for the Upcoming Spring Tidying Session

Residents of Wigan Borough are being urged to participate in the Great British Spring Clean, the largest environmental campaign in the nation. The council’s Keep It Clean initiative has already made significant progress in tackling litter and fly-tipping, with the help of 2,000 volunteers and the installation of 160 new bins. Now, the council is calling on its residents to join the effort and take part in litter picks. Councillor Paul Prescott, the cabinet portfolio holder for environment, commended the volunteers for their hard work in keeping the streets clean and protecting local wildlife. He also encouraged others to get involved, highlighting the sense of satisfaction it brings. In addition to individual litter picks, the council will be organizing group clean-ups on specific dates and locations. These efforts will not only involve picking up litter, but also targeting problem areas and addressing issues like fly-tipping. The council’s team will be building on the progress made through the Our Town 3 program. If you are interested in participating in an organized litter pick or leading your own group, you can find more information on the Great British Spring Clean 2024 website.
