Salford unveils North West’s inaugural Futsal Centre

In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts in Salford, the grand opening of a cutting-edge futsal SCL arena has been announced by the Salford City Council. This state-of-the-art facility, located at Ordsall Leisure Centre, is set to revolutionise the sport in the North West of England.

Thanks to a generous grant of £190k from the Premier League, The FA, and the Football Foundation, along with an additional £127k funding from the Salford Council, this project has become a reality. The funding will not only support the futsal centre but also cover the construction of new changing rooms and an education space, which will benefit the existing Foundation-funded 3G pitch at the site.

Futsal has been gaining popularity in recent years due to its fast-paced action and technical prowess. Salford aims to become a leader in futsal growth in the region by providing a dedicated facility that fosters and develops local talent. This new futsal centre will serve as an inclusive hub, promoting and nurturing this exciting sport within the community and beyond.

The grand opening event showcased the futsal SCL arena through a facility tour and a comprehensive presentation on the project’s objectives, potential impact, and exciting plans. Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods, Sports and Leisure, expressed her excitement about the opening of the North West’s only dedicated futsal facility in Salford. She highlighted the growing popularity of futsal across the country and emphasized the immense benefits it offers for mental and physical health. The Salford City Council is committed to promoting sports and physical activity and invites residents to come and try futsal at Ordsall.
